A postnatal multivitamin supplement should be taken by moms following childbirth, during breastfeeding, to support the enhanced nutrient needs of nursing mothers and their baby.†
Lactation places higher calorie and nutrient demands on the body, since mothers must meet the nutritional needs of a growing baby without sacrificing their own nutrient requirements.
Different life stages require different levels of nutrients depending on nutritional needs. Nutrient recommendations may change to meet specific requirements for pregnancy and lactation.
The Nature Made® Postnatal + DHA supplement was carefully designed to provide levels of key nutrients to meet needs of lactating moms including higher levels of vitamins A, C, and E. However, higher folic acid and iron intakes are needed during pregnancy but not after pregnancy so recommended levels are lower to support specific postnatal needs.2,3
The recommended intakes that are lower during breastfeeding are 300mcg for folic acid and 9 mg for iron. The recommended intakes that are higher during breastfeeding are 1300 ug RAE for vitamin A, 120 mg for Vitamin C and 19 mg for vitamin E.2,3
